So my husband is a pretty religious old soul, and started introducing Pagan and Wiccan celebrations and traditions into our household many moons ago, before the time of the babes. And now that they're here too, we really really love to go all in and celebrate in these special occasions.
Ēostre , or Ostara - means its time to celebrate the Spring equinox. Its the time for new beginnings, and for light and new life to emerge from the dark of winter. For me, an outdoor lover, and sun worshipper, this never comes soon enough. I love to spend my time in the garden, so I love celebrating the Spring equinox finally arriving after what can seem a rather a few bleak and dreary weeks.
Now, like most things, this becomes so much more fun with the kiddies involved, and I'm sure my creative juices will get flowing in future years to challenge myself each year to make it better than last year...but for now, they are quite tiny and and lets face it - pretty much unaware, so its really more for us than them! However, I still love to get them involved, so here's a few little things we did as a family to celebrate Ostara 2020.
Now, I should say, we should bear in mind Rags is only 20 months old, and cant talk yet and Wolf is 8 1/2 months, so Wolf was totally out...but if you have older kiddly winks and you're thinking this is a bit tame...well...it is to be fair....Haaha! But I enjoyed myself...
We decorated our tree
Now, 'tree' may be a bit of a strong term...the branch my husband hacked of our dead tree from the garden in our old house, that I sprayed white, so yeah 'tree' , why not - (yes... I am quite weirdly attached to the oddly shaped old thing...) is the first of our decorations we get out to adorn. This year we covered it in lights, bunny's and eggs, all to represent new life and the lighter brighter days that lay ahead.

I also bought some plastic eggs to decorate from Ebay and the boys both joined in with bits of collage and stickers and of course the dreaded glitter (parents vom in their own mouth) to fancy them up a bit, and I really want to keep these and get them out every year now as they'll be a treasured keepsake.
Hopefully we can add to it as the years go by, as a family.
Next year I think I will add an Ostara wreath to our decorations to adorn our front door, with daffs , other spring flowers and little eggs.
Getting Fresh Air
We also went for a walk, but as this is during a very unusual period of social distancing and self isolation we couldn't see any friends, or go the pub for a Sunday Roast, so it was a walk - good old fashioned fun - just the four of us - to see that spring had sprung - goodness for the soul.
Spending time as a Family
We also have two rescued bunnies - so what better time than to make them a new run outdoors so they can play safely, and the boys can watch them scamper about more easily too. We actually had a good general clear up of the garden - a great thing for everyone to be part of. Out with the old and in with the new - Rags carried a bucket up and down the path as though he was being helpful (!) And it gave us a kick we needed to freshen up our kiddie safe area so we can start enjoying the lighter warmer days in the comfort of our own little slice of outdoors - to feel the full force of the joys of Spring.
Meal Time
A celebratory meal is always a family favourite - we always like to have a pie and seasonal vegetables - and of course may add a few glasses of wine on top to really enjoy it (not for the little ones of course!). We also made toddler and baby friendly versions so everyone could feast , as really to us its all about being together, feeling grateful, and for looking forward. The best is yet to come.
